
Rasafa (Sergiopolis)
Rasafa located in the Syrian semi desert . 30 km. south from the main road between Aleppo & Raqqa 160 km. from Aleppo.
It was the second big city for the Ghassanids, the biggest arabian tribe in the 5th -- 7th A.D.
It was called Sergiopolic during the Byzantine time. to commemorate the execution of St.Sergius in it.
In the 8th century; the Omayad Caliph Hisham ibn Abdul Malik built two beautiful palaces on its side.
It is famouse for its walls and the Cathedral and the big water cisterns from the Roman and Byzantine time.
